Packard special collection | |
The Packard collection (comprising 3 boxes, 20 files, 6 notebooks and a card index) was compiled by Brigadier John Joseph Packard (1910-1993) and was donated to the Society by his widow Faith. Obituaries of the Brigadier appeared in The Times and Daily Telegraph on 20 August 1993.rnrnBrigadier Packard began his genealogical research in 1961 on his retirement from the army. Much of this collection consists of correspondence with Packards worldwide, either personal correspondence or circular letters sent at Christmas. Many of these contacts were made as a result of sales of his book on the history of the family (which can be found on the library's family history shelves FH/PAC).rnrnThe collection has been weeded and now consists largely of correspondence with at least a modicum of genealogical interest relating to Packard families in Suffolk and abroad (America, Canada,Australia and New Zealand). As well as the correspondence there are some certificates and a few photographs and notebooks.
