 Tacolneston parish registers
Transcript of the Tacolneston parish registers.

Notes

1. There are two registers from 1538 to 1598: the original paper register, and the 1598 copy on to parchment. This Elizabethan copy was the first register to be transcribed (before the existence of the original was discovered). Differences between the two are noted in { } curly brackets, items in the { } being from the original register.

2. Bishop's and Archdeacon's Transcripts [BT AT] have been checked where these have survived, and differences from the registers noted.

3. Items in [ ] square brackets are transcriber's comments and are not in the registers.

4. Both these early registers are in Latin, and have not been anglicised in this transcript. Names of parents/husbands will be in the genitive (possessive) case and they appear as such in this transcript e.g. Johannes filius Johannis - John the son of John; Alicia uxor Petri - Alice the wife of Peter; Petrus filius Richardi et Mariae - Peter son of Richard and Mary etc.

5. Place names are shown as they appear in the register and have not been modernised.

6. Names and other words are often abbreviated in the registers with a line over the word, and are shown here with an apostrophe.

7. Entries in the marriage register have been checked against the banns register, which dates from 1754.

8. Transcript prepared by Graham Loveday King MA (Oxon) MA (SFU), Bergh Apton, 2008-2009
