Transcript of the marriage register for Garboldisham in Norfolk for 1609-1837.
Notes
1. The earliest surviving register begins in 1609. There are two marriage registers covering 1754-1758.
2. Items in square brackets [ ] are the transcriber's comments/observations; they do not form part of the register.
3. Bishop's and Archdeacon's Transcripts [BT AT] have been checked where these have survived (lists of which appear below), and differences from the registers noted in [ ] in the notes column. They add important extra information, especially in helping to fill in the gap in the registers from 1715-1726.
4. The banns registers have also been checked, and again differences from the marriage registers noted in the notes column. Two registers survive, from 1754 to 1812.
The calling of banns which did not result in a marriage at Garboldisham have also been included in this transcrip, with a note to this effect in the Notes column.
5. Place names are as they occur in the registers, and have not been put into modern form.
6. Surname variants are plentiful, and some of these are listed below. Think how Norfolk people speak/would have spoken: e.g. Gowen is no different from Gowing and Doo is no different from Dew/Due.
7. Transcript undertaken by Graham Loveday King MA (Oxon) MA (SFU), Bergh Apton, August 2010.
