 Mundford burials 1698-1840
Transcript of the Mundford burial register 1698-1840.

Notes:
1. The earliest register starts in 1699, but there is a Bishop's Transcript for 1698. The last page of this first register is badly torn/worn and has been stuck to a sheet of paper to preserve it many years ago. Unfortunately this covers the year 1740 for which there is no Bishop's or Archdeacon's Transcript.

2. Bishop's and Archdeacon's Transcripts [BT AT] have been checked where these have survived (lists of which appear below), and differences from the registers noted. They add important extra information. The 1705/6 return includes a list of all Protestants of ye Ch: of England, which are included in red at the relevant year in this TS, which provides a significant census of the parish at this date.

3. There is a separate copy register made in 1809 for the years 1741-1809, which has on front cover: "Several Omissions and Mistakes having been made in the Old Register of Mundford by the Persons intrusted to deliver in a true and exact Copy of them to be inserted by me into the Register Book bound in Calf I have in this Book endeavourd to correct such Errors as far as lay in my power by writing over a Copy from Lady Day 1741 to the last Entry of Burials March 23d 1809 by which the Mistakes and Omissions in the former Register may be corrected by this - Geo Wright Rector of Moundford March 25th 1809." It is a pity that he also made mistakes, which the current transcriber in turn has sought to indicate.

4. Items in square brackets [ ] are the transcriber's comments/observations; they do not form part of the register.

5. Place names are as they occur in the registers, and have not been put into modern form. Mundford is frequently Moundford, and Lynford is frequently Lyndford.

6. Imagination of different spellings of the same name is needed when searching. Some will appear next to each other in the alphabetical version of this transcript, but others will be a long way separated. Houchen and Houchin will provide no problem, but Audrey will be far from Orderie for example. A list of at least some of the surname variants is given below.
7. Transcript undertaken by Graham Loveday King MA (Oxon) MA (SFU), Bergh Apton, February 2011.
