 Five centuries of Fripps
Introduction

This is the third version of "Five Centuries" and includes many additional records and corrections of version 2. This version contains information on 2,215 baptisms or births, 1,446 marriages and 1,353 deaths or burials. As before each type of record is listed in alphabetical order of forename for easy reference. Also included is information on the 372 parishes I have covered in my searches, with start and end dates.

There are many variations of the name Fripp, the most common being Frip(p)(e), Flip(p), and Phrip(p)(e). I am continuing with what has become a one-name study and may include other name variations in the future if necessary. This version also includes a number of Fipp and Phipp etc. records but I am not sure they are genuine antecedents.

As with earlier versions I have constructed a large number of family trees, and readers so inclined may draw their own copies of these by using the tree numbers and relationships shown below.

Since the last version I have discovered a fairly elementary error in my own family tree. My grandfather's place and date of birth were not, as I believed, in the parish of Spetisbury, in Dorset. The whole of my family tree prior to my grandfather was wrong and I have had to go back almost to square one in my research. Fortunately I have been able to retrace my ancestors quickly (correctly this time) via the isle of Wight to the Dorset parish of Hilton, with certainty back to 1806 and probably to the 1720's. My own tree is now number 72.

I have collected the information from all the usual sources. I have also corresponded with many people over many years who have provided information and pointed out errors. I am particularly indebted to the following who have made major contributions to the compilation:

The late Arthur Fripp, of Wimborne, Dorset,
Frank Phripp, of Ontario, Canada,
Tom Fripp, of Bognor Regis, West Sussex, and
Val Peacock, or Victoria, Australia.
